What is HMG (Human Menopausal Gonadotropin)?

HMG is short for Human Menopausal Gonadotropin, a peptide blend made of two separate hormones.

The two hormones are follicle stimulating hormone, or FSH, and luteinizing hormone, or LH.

HMG is drawn from urine collected after menopause and comes in a sealed vial.

What researchers study it for

• Testosterone in lab models. Labs study how it acts on the testosterone made in the testes.
• Sperm cell studies. Studies look at its part in spermatogenesis, the making of sperm cells.
• Both hormones at once. Unlike HCG, it supplies both FSH and LH.
• Studies after other compounds. It is studied in the period after other hormone research compounds are stopped.

What you get

One sealed vial of HMG holding 75 IU. As with some other hormones, its strength is measured in international units (IU) rather than mg. It is mixed with liquid before use.
