What is HCG?

HCG is short for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a glycoprotein hormone, meaning it is built from a protein with sugar attached.

HCG acts much like luteinizing hormone (LH), which the body makes on its own and which signals the testes to make testosterone. Researchers study how HCG acts on the testes in lab models.
