What is Epithalon (Epitalon)?
Epithalon, also spelled Epitalon, is a tetrapeptide, a peptide made of 4 amino acids. It is a lab-made version of a peptide made naturally by the pineal gland, a small gland deep in the brain.
It was first developed by researcher Vladimir Khavinson and comes as a powder in a sealed vial.
What researchers study it for
- Telomere length. Labs study how it affects telomerase, an enzyme studied for its role in fixing telomeres, the protective caps on chromosomes.
- Sleep cycles. Studies look at its effect on melatonin, a hormone tied to the body’s sleep-wake cycle, or circadian rhythm.
- Immune cells. Researchers study how it affects immune cell activity in lab models.
- Skin cells. Studies look at its effect on fibroblasts, the skin cells that make collagen.
- Nerve cells. Researchers explore its effect on nerve cell health in lab settings.
